Banda boat mishap: 3 killed with over 15 missing as the boat carrying 36 people capsized

The local administrations have deployed divers to search for the missing ones whose numbers are speculated to be above 15, the Additional SP present on the spot said seven to eight people swam to the sides while the operation is still on to search for others.

Two women and a child lost their lives after a boat carrying 30-35 people capsized in the Yamuna River of UP’s Banda district. However, the actual number of people on board is still not known.

The incident occurred earlier in the day when the boat was traveling from Marka to Jarauli Ghat in Fatehpur, Superintended of Police Abhinandan informed.

As soon as the incident took place the rescue operation was initiated with 11 people being rescued by far. It was around 3 PM in the afternoon when the incident happened.

The local administrations have deployed divers to search for the missing ones whose numbers are speculated to be above 15. The Additional SP present on the spot said seven to eight people swam to the sides while the operation is still on to search for others.

Senior officials from the district administration were present on the site to observe the development of the incident. Mourning the loss of lives, the chief minister has directed the officials to seek the assistance of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

He has also told the officials to ensure that the injured are provided the best treatment. The locals in huge numbers were present at the spot for assisting the district officials in regulating the operation
