Coronavirus Updates: India reports new 43,893 COVID-19 cases; recovery rates improve to 90.85 per cent

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total 10,54,87,680 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to 27th October. Of these 10,66,786 samples were tested on Tuesday.

India on Wednesday registered 43,893 new covid-19 cases in a day, taking the caseload to above 79 lakh mark. According to the health ministry data released on Tuesday, as many as 508 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, after which the total death toll mounted to 1,20,010. 

New coronavirus infections recorded in India in 24 hours have dropped below 40,000 after nearly 3 months.

India's total COVID-19 cases have increased to 7,990,322 while the fatality rate stood at 1.50 per cent. Total active cases are at 6,10,803 which comprises 7.88 per cent of the total caseload, as per the ministry data. Around 72,59, 509 people have recovered from the infection taking the national recovery rate to 90.62 per cent. 

The country has seen a declining trend in daily covid-19 cases except for two to three states, the government said.

Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi have seen an increase in the number COVID-19 cases during festivals, the health ministry had said on Monday.

The country's infection tally had crossed the 20 lakh-mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past the 50 lakh-mark on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11. India is the second hardest-hit country with 7,864,811 covid cases,  while the country's death toll soared to 1,18,534.

# Schools in Delhi will continue to be closed until further orders amidst rising cases and parents not being in favour of reopening schools, either said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday. "We keep getting feedback from parents that they are concerned about whether it is safe to reopen schools. It is not. Wherever schools have reopened, COVID-19 cases among children have risen. So we have decided that as of now schools in the national capital will not reopen. They will continue to be closed till further orders," Sisodia said.

# Karnataka Health and Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar on Tuesday claimed that the state might get Covid-19 vaccines in early 2021. “There are all possibilities to get Covid-19 vaccines at the beginning of 2021 itself,” he said after a meeting in Bengaluru with officials of the Astra Zeneca company, involved in research and trial of Covid vaccines.

# Gujarat recorded a spike in fresh covid-19 cases with 992 on Tuesday. The state tally has reached 1,69,354, while five more Covid-19 fatalities took the death toll to 3,723.

# Odisha's coronavirus cases increased to 2,85,482 on Wednesday after 1,540 more people tested positive for the infection. 12 people died pushing the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,284. Odisha now has 16,030 active coronavirus cases, while 2,68,115 people have recovered from the infection so far and over 44.22 lakh samples for COVID-19 has been tested, including 36,905 on Tuesday.

# Tripura reported 160 more people tested positive for covid-19 while 202 more people were cured of the disease on Wednesday. The state has a total caseload of 30,453. Tripura now has 1,757 active coronavirus cases, while 28,332 people have recovered from the disease and 341 patients have lost lives due to the infection so far. The state has tested 4,52,233 samples for COVID-19 by far. 

# Telangana reported 1,481 new cases, pushing the tally to 2.34 lakh after four more deaths pushed the death toll in the state to 1,319.

# Jharkhand's coronavirus tally breached 1 lakh-mark on Wednesday after 318 more people tested positive for the infection. The new cases have taken the state's caseload to 1,00,224 and as many as 4 people lost lives pushing the state's coronavirus death toll to 876. The state has 5,474 active cases, while 93,874 people have been cured of the disease by far. The state has tested 22,162 samples for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. 

# Sikkim's COVID-19 cases increased to 3,863 after 23 more positive cases were detected positive for the infection in the past 24 hours, while two fresh fatalities took the death toll to 67.
