Jyoti Kumari, who cycled 1200 kilometres from Gurgaon to Bihar's Darbhanga with her injured father riding pillion during the national lockdown 2020, lost her father to cardiac arrest on Monday.

She then emerged as the face of migrant workers' plight as tens of thousands of men, pregnant women and children have had to walk, or cycle, hundreds of kilometres to get home due to lockdown.

It was after the public transport system was shut, Jyoti decided to ride a bicycle for 1200 Km as her father was severely ill at that time.

She rode the bicycle for seven continuous days, she survived without food for two days, and they even borrowed some money to buy the cycle.

Her education was sponsored by Bihar’s Lok Janshakti Party and her family was offered Rs 1 lakh as financial aid by the UP’s Samajwadi Party. She was also called by the Cycle Federation of India for trails.

Her father had said that he owe his life to his daughter and is proud of her.
