Deepika Dean, a newly recruited headmistress of Government High School, Abdal in the district Amritsar, have come forward with an initiative to achieve ‘Mission Shat Pratishat’.  She accompanied by her staff members has started door to door campaign to make the parents aware about the reopening of schools and that they have been following all the guidelines and taking necessary precautions against covid19, to keep children safe.

Divulging detail of the campaign, Deepika, who has been recruited through Punjab Public Service Commission and joined in January 2020, said that the campaign aims at convincing parents to send their wards to school, so that they could be prepared for the ensuing final exam. She said that though the teachers are working hard and making students understand every single chapter through online mode, it is necessary that students now get back to their routine of attending classes.

Besides, she has mobilised village panchayat to donate adjoining land and a defunct community hall to the school for ensuring better infrastructure facilities to the students.

"Earlier, the schools for the students of classes 9th to 12th were opened and students have been attending the school with the consent of their parents. Now, the Punjab government has opened schools for the classes from 5th to 8th with the consent of the parents. The two-day ‘Parents Teachers Meet’ (PTM) was also organised on January 7 and 8 to interact with the parents about the progress report of the students", said Deepika while adding that the door to door campaign was especially planned to reach out to those parents, who could not come to school.

“The school staff members- Parwinder kaur, Jaspal Kaur, Jaspinder Kaur and Manjider Kaur have come forward to support me in this initiative and all of us visited the houses of all the parents to apprise them about the education facilities and the Covid-19 precautions being followed in the school”, she added.

The parents were also sensitised about the ‘Mission Cent Percent'. Besides, the village residents were also made aware about the infrastructure as well as quality education facilities coupled with various welfare schemes like Mid Day Meal, scholarships etc for the eligible beneficiaries, to motivate them to get their wards enrolled in the government schools, further added Deepika.

Meanwhile, her initiative was also lauded by the Education Department and she was featured on the “Activities School Education Punjab" facebook page, said the District Education Officer (Secondary), Satinderbir Singh while adding that the initiative would prove a source of inspiration for the others to replicate the good practice.
