Harbhajan Singh, the veteran Indian off-spinner, announced his retirement from all forms of competitive cricket on social media on Friday. Harbhajan Singh, the first Indian to score a Test hat-trick, is most recognised for his stunning bowling performance against Australia in the historic 2001 Border-Gavaskar series, in which he claimed 32 wickets in three matches to resurrect his cricketing career.

Harbhajan Singh is one of the few players who have played in both India's 2007 (T20) and 2011 World Cup wins. In the first T20 World Cup in 2011, he led the spin-bowling assault to 7 wickets, bowling in tight times as India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-final before defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

His most recent international outing was in a T20 international in 2016. Harbhajan Singh got 417 wickets in 103 Tests, making him the fourth most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in Test cricket history.

Harbhajan Singh, 41, who played in a few games for Kolkata Knight Riders during the first phase of the last IPL, did not appear in any of the league's games in the UAE. Harbhajan has always been interested in developing players, and this was also his role with the Mumbai Indians in his latter years, where he spent a profitable decade.

"In my mind, I retired earlier but I am making the announcement today. My journey from the streets of Jalandhar to become the Turnabator for Team India has been a beautiful one. There is no bigger motivation for me in life than stepping out on the field, wearing the India jersey. There comes a time in life where we have to take a tough decision, you have to move forward in life. I was waiting for the last few years to make this announcement public -- I am retiring from all forms of cricket," Harbhajan remarked while wearing an India jacket on his YouTube channel.

In fact, when Harbhajan was with KKR last season, he spent a lot of time advising Varun Chakravarthy, who has been a key member of the club for the last two seasons. Harbhajan Singh has appeared in 163 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders across 13 seasons (he did not participate in 2020) and has taken 150 wickets at an average of 26. His best results were 5/18.
