Due to the absence of primary coaches Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun, and Vikram Rathour, Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid is almost certain to be coaching the senior Indian cricket team on their tour of Sri Lanka. The same has been confirmed by a representative of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

It won't be the first time Rahul Dravid serves as a member of the support staff for the senior Indian team. Dravid accompanied the players on their 2014 tour of England as a batting consultant.

Although the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and others will be in England for the Test assignments, the Indian team will feature all white-ball specialists and gen-next players. Dravid has worked with a number of young players during his time with India A and India U-19, so the compatibility prospects are favorable.

"The Team India coaching staff will be in the United Kingdom, and it is best if Dravid leads the young team, as he has already interacted with almostall of India's 'A' players. The comfort he shares with the boys will be an added bonus," sources added.

Dravid is a well-known figure in Indian cricket, and his coaching methods have worked wonders for the country's junior teams. Dravid was also offered the role of full-time head coach of Team India, but he declined after Anil Kumble's exit.

Since his tenure as India A and India U-19 head coach came to an end, The Wall, as Dravid was known during his playing days, has been working as the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Dravid is supposed to bring a few of his NCA colleagues with him to Sri Lanka as part of the support staff.

The Indian team will travel to Sri Lanka next month for three One-Day Internationals and as many Twenty-20 Internationals. They'll have to quarantine before and after their trip to the Island country. The series will kick off on July 13 with the first ODI, followed by the final T20I on July 27.
