International kabaddi player shot dead by ASI in Kapurthala, case registered

International kabaddi player Arvinderjit Singh Padda alias Pehalwan was shot dead by ASI Paramjeet Singh in Kapurthala's Lakhan ke Padde village, which falls under the Subhanpur Police Station on May 7 at around 10 pm. An associate of the kabaddi player was also shot and injured.

A case of murder has been registered against two persons at Subhanpur police station in connection with the incident. 

According to Pradeep Singh's statement, who has been injured in the incident said on Thursday after 9:30 pm he was on his way to the village in an Endeavor car with his friends--Balraj Singh, Gurjeet Singh, Mangal Singh and Maninder Singh and kabaddi player Arvinderjit Singh.

When he turned his car towards the village and he was a car was parked on the side of the road. There were cloth curtains on the rear window of that car. "On suspicion, we parked our car near the alreday parked car and they instantly drove towards the village," he said. 

He started chasing the car and then stopped it near the village firni. 

Injured Pradeep said that when he and his friend Arvinderjit got down from the vehicle to see the car, Policeman Paramjit Singh, a resident of Bamuwal, got out of the other car. He had a revolver in his hand and immediately started firing at Arvinderjit Singh without saying a word. Arvinderjit was seriously injured.


Arvinderjit was then taken to Subhanupar Hospital but was not admitted by the hospital staff. Pradeep said that after we took Arvinderjit  to a private hospital in Jalandhar where he was declared dead. 

Police have registered a case of murder against ASI Paramjit Singh and Mangu for having an altercation at Lakhan Ke Padde with six young men in a Ford Endeavour Car. 

In the incident, ASI Paramjit Singh fired from his license revolver towards Arvinderjit Singh, who received bullet injury and died on the spot.

In this regard Kapurthala Police has logded an FIR under section 302,307, 34 IPC and Arms Act was registered at Police Station, Subhanpur against ASI  Paramjit Singh and Mangu.

Both the accused have been arrested, the weapon and the vehicle have been recovered and further investigation is going on. 

ASI Paramjit Singh has been dismissed from service.
