IPL 2021: Australian pacer Nathan Ellis bags IPL contract for Punjab Kings

On Friday night, Australian pacer Nathan Ellis joined Punjab Kings and will play in IPL 2021, commencing from September 19.

Australian pacer Nathan Ellis will play for Punjab Kings in the second half of Indian Premier League 2021, the team confirmed last night. Two overseas players, Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith, notably have been ruled out for IPL 2021. 

Ellis became the first male player to secure a T20 hat-trick on his debut against Bangladesh this month, was named on Thursday as one of Australia's three reserve players for the T20 World Cup, which begins in October. His wickets against Bangladesh included Mahdmullah, Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman.

Punjab Kings shared this new entry on Twitter and wrote, “Nathan Elli is a King. He’s the newest addition to #SaddaSquad for the second phase of IPL 2021!”

A press release stated, “Earlier today, Punjab Kings announced a new addition to their roster, roping in new Australian sensation Nathan Ellis. The pacer will be part of the squad for the remainder of the 2021 VIVO Indian Premier League, and is expected to join the team camp shortly after finishing his quarantine.” 

Ellis went unsold in player auction for IPL 2021 in January.

IPL 2021 was postponed as multiple players were tested positive for the Covid-19, the season would resume from September 19, 2021. The first match would be between Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings and Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai India. In all matches, 13 matches would be held in Dubai, 10 in Sharjah, and 8 in Abu Dhabi.

With Afghanistan's political situation deteriorating, uncertainty and unpredictability hang over the futures of its finest cricketers, particularly Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi, who are scheduled to participate in the IPL 2021.
