A woman set her 3-year-old son on fire at his parent's house in the village Palak of Ghudanal Kalan in Ludhiana. Khanna police have registered a case against the woman on the complaint of her mother. At Chandigarh PGI, the child is receiving medical care. Doctors' reports indicate that the infant has more than 60% burn damage, according to the police. The child's condition is said to be critical.

In her police complaint, Manjeet Kaur stated that her daughter Rupinder Kaur was having problems because of a dispute with her husband. She is living at her parents' house. On September 2, Rupinder allegedly poured oil on his son and then set the child on fire. Manjeet said that she hurried to extinguish the flames and sprinkled water after hearing the child's cries. The child was taken to a local hospital, from where he was referred to Civil Hospital Ludhiana. However, seeing his condition deteriorating, he was immediately referred to PGI Chandigarh.

According to ASI Sukhwinder Singh, the case's investigating officer, police found the mobil oil that the mother is accused of pouring on the child at the scene. The boy was sent to PGI, according to the official, because he had more than 60% burn damage. His condition is critical.

At Payal Police Station, a case has been filed against the woman under Sections 307 of the IPC and 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The woman has not yet been apprehended, according to the ASI.
