Netizens expressed shocked after former NDTV journalist Nidhi Razdan on Friday tweeted that she had been the target of a ‘very serious phishing attack’.

As per information, Nidhi Razdan six months ago announced on social media that she will be quitting NDTV to take up a teaching position at Harvard University. However, today she revealed on twitter that what she believed was an offer to teach at Harvard University, was nothing but a serious phishing attack.

In her statement on twitter, Nidhi said that “I have been the victim of a very serious phishing attack. I’m putting this statement out to set the record straight about what I’ve been through. I will not be addressing this issue any further on social media”.

She further attached a big two pages post, writing, “In June 2020, and after 21 years with NDTV, I decided to move on and said that I would be joining Harvard University as an Associate Professor of Journalism”.

She said that she had been told that she would be joining the University in September 2020, and while she was making preparations to take up the new job, she was later informed that due to the ongoing pandemic, her classes would commence in January 2021.

She further wrote in her tweet that with these delays, she sensed number of administrative anomalies in the process described to her.

"At first, I had dismissed these anomalies as being reflective of the new normal being dictated by the pandemic, but recently the representations being made to me were of an even more disquieting nature. As a result, I reached out to senior authorities at Harvard University for clarity. Upon their request, I shared some of the correspondence that I believed I had received from the University," she added.

Nidhi then said that after hearing from the University, she has now learnt that she have been the victim of a sophisticated and coordinated phishing attack. “I did not, in fact, receive an offer by Harvard University to join their faculty as an Associate Professor of Journalism. The perpetrators of this attack used clever forgeries and misrepresentations to obtain access to my personal data and communications and may have also gained access to my devices and my email/social media accounts."

She said that she has filed a complaint with the police and provided them all the relevant document evidence and requested them to take immediate steps to identify and prosecute those behind the "abominable attack".

Besides, she had also written to the Harvard University authorities and urged them to take the matter seriously. She said that in the past few days, she has written to individuals and organizations with whom she has been in touch with over past few months to keep them informed of this shocking development.

"I hope that the police are able to get to the bottom of this attack on me at the earliest and help me bring this unsavoury incident to a swift end," she wrote.
