The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday has dismissed a petition filed by Sahil Sampla, son of former BJP Union Minister Vijay Sampla, against Lovely Professional University.

Coronavirus Punjab-Curfew Lovely-Professional-University

After a student of LPU was tested positive for coronavirus, Punjab govt had issued a show-cause notice to Lovely Professional University for violating curfew norms and not shutting down the campus thoroughly.

BJP leader Sampla, due to his not so friendly relations with LPU, took advantage of the incident and started to raise objections against the authorities. Leader's son, Sahil Sampla, later filed a petition in the High Court to intervene into the matter.

It is worth mentioning here that after Kapurthala District Administration came to know about the petition filed in High Court, they refuted the allegations made agaisnt the university authorities.

After a student was tested positive for COVID-19, health authorities came into action and collected blood samples of the students who were residing in the campus. Reportedly, all the samples were found negative.

Whereas, the health officials were keen to perform screening and testing of the students, Lovely University administration had given full support to the health department.

The directions issued by the Union Home Ministry for lockdown involved the closure of educational institutions and not hostels.
In this regard, Lovely University had sent back thousands of students but some students who had come from abroad to study here are being taken care of. Many of these students have now been repatriated.
