Telangana on alert; 42 students tests positive amid ‘Omicron’ concern

This is the third such case in Telangana in the last ten days.

Telangana's active cases of COVID-19 are 3535 cases. Recently, as many as 42 students in a residential school in Telangana tested COVID-19 positive. Along with the 42 students, one teacher from the state-run residential school also tested positive due to COVID-19.

 

The cases have come to light at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Gurukul School at Muthangi village in Sangareddy district, about 50 km from Hyderabad.

 

Telangana state health minister T Harish Rao held a high-level meeting at his chambers to review the preparedness for the situation arising out of the new variant.

 

“All that the people should do is to strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines, including wearing of masks, maintaining of physical distancing and regular sanitisation. They should not let their guards down under any circumstances,” Rao said.

 

This is the third such case in Telangana in the last ten days, when students in educational institutions in the state have been found to be covid positive. Recently, as many as 25 students were down with COVID-19 at Mahindra University located near Hyderabad. 

 

According to the health official, all the infected students, have been kept in isolation. The students have been kept in isolation at the hostel premises and they are all stable. A few days back, a student was taken ill and she developed symptoms of COVID-19.

Due to this new variant, the Karnataka government issued new guidelines for international visitors on Monday. Travellers arriving from the at-risk 12 countries will be subjected to RT-PCR tests, according to a Department of Health circular. According to the newly released guidelines, travellers will be required to stay at home for seven days and will be subjected to retesting on the eighth day.
