As India is under lockdown for more than 3 months, every kind of public event and functions are on hold. After the Ministry of Home Affairs's (MHA) guidelines on marriages and funerals, Karnataka state government has come up with its own guidelines. As per sources, these guidelines will come into force from May 17 onwards, after the third phase of the nationwide lockdown comes to end.

The guidelines are drafted by the Home Department of the Karnataka government begin with a rule for restricted attendance. No more than 50 people will be allowed to attend a wedding function or other such private events. In addition, it will be compulsory for all attendees to download the Aarogya Setu App in their mobile phones.

No alcohol will be served at a wedding ceremony or any other private event held in Karnataka post-May 17, say the guidelines. Furthermore, the hosts will be required to maintain a detailed list of all the guests apart from ensuring that each attendee goes through thermal scanning. The provision of hand sanitizers and face masks will also be compulsory at all such events.

Residents of containment zones will not be allowed to be part of wedding functions or any other private events. The guidelines also state that people over 65 years of age, pregnant women and children below 10 years of age cannot attend these events.
