Top five Government Scholarships for school students, check details to know when and how to apply

The Central government has recently announced a few scholarships for school students.

       Recently, the government of India has announced many scholarships for financially unstable students. These scholarships are for those students who want to study but can’t study due to the financial condition of their families. 
Here is the list of five such scholarships which would benefit lakh of school students every year:
·        National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Exam (NMMS):

NMMS is a scheme that would help the school students from the economically weaker sections. Students from class 11th are awarded scholarships annually to encourage them to continue their studies at the secondary level.

To apply for this scholarship, the annual income of the student’s family should be less than Rs 1.50 lakh.

Eligibility – The student must score 55% in class 7th and class 8th.

Scholarship – Rs 12,000 per annum.

Deadline of Application submission – August to November.

Application mode – The application form may be submitted through National Scholarship Portal (NSP), and by visiting the official website - https://scholarships.wbsed.gov.in

  • National Talent Search Exam (NTSE):

This test is conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Students from class 10th can apply for this exam. This exam is conducted at two levels – first, at the state level and second at the national level (all-India level).

Scholarship – Rs 1250 per month.

Deadline of Application submission – August to September.

Application mode – Candidate can get the application through the Liaison Officer of concerned state and UT or the application may be filled by visiting the official website – https://scholarships.wbsed.gov.in/index.php.  

  • Pre-Matric Scholarship for minorities:

The scholarship is given by the Ministry of Minorities and the Government of India. The main aim of this scholarship exam is to raise the level of education among the minority population of the country. For this scholarship, the annual income of the student’s family must be less than or equal to Rs 1 lakh.

Qualification – The student must have more than 55% marks in the previous class.

Scholarship – Admission fee, Tuition fee, and maintenance allowance.

Application Mode – The application could be filled by the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) or by visiting the official website - https://scholarships.gov.in/

  • Pre-Matric Scholarship:

This scholarship is given by the Department of Empowerment to persons with disabilities. The objective of this scholarship is to assist the differently-abled students studying in class 9th and class 10th. The annual income of the family must be less than or equal to 2.50 lakh.

Qualification – The student must be 40 percent or more disabled.

Scholarship – Book Grant, Disability Allowance and Maintenance Allowance.

Application Mode – The application could be filled by the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) or by visiting the official website - http://disabilityaffairs.gov.in/contenthi/page/scholarship-en.php.  

  •  CBSE Single Girl Child Scholarship:

This is a merit-based scholarship, which is provided to a single girl child. This scholarship aims to promote girl’s education. Girls studying in class 11th and class 12th in CBSE affiliated schools can apply for this scholarship.

Eligibility – Students must have 60% marks in the class 10th CBSE board examination.

Scholarship – Rs 500 per month for two years (during 11th and 12th class).

Deadline for application submission – September to October
