The distribution of several newspapers was delayed across various parts of Punjab on Sunday as police carried out intensive checking of vehicles transporting the publications.

In Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur, police stopped newspaper delivery vans and conducted thorough inspections.

Delays were also reported from Ahmedgarh, Amritsar, Faridkot and Muktsar, where vendors said newspapers did not arrive on time.

In Patiala, vehicles carrying vernacular newspapers were checked extensively early in the morning before being allowed to move. Vendors in Samana and Patran said their supplies were also delayed due to the screening of newspaper vans.

To know the reason behind it, True Scoop contacted Special DGP Arpit Shukla.

Special DGP informed True Scoop that the checking was carried out based on inputs that some newspaper vehicles could be used to smuggle drugs or weapons.

“There is no attempt to stop the circulation of newspapers. The vehicles and the drivers were released after thorough checking. The remainder would be in the process,” he said.
