Car enthusiasts in Chandigarh recently shed big money on VIP numbers that seemed attractive and expensive. In the latest e-auction held by Chandigarh Transport authority, bids for premium and fancy car numbers reportedly reached a total of Rs 2.71 crore.
James Bond-inspired car number i.e. 0007 was sold at Rs 10.94 lakh. The exact number was PB01 DB 0007. However, despite 007 being the famous number and often linked to Hollywood's famous detective movie- James Bond, it was not the costliest.

The highest bid in this series was for the number PB01 DB 0001, which was sold for Rs 22.58 lakh.
The Transport Authority sold the numbers in its new series, from PB01 DB 0001 to PB01 DB 9999, through e-auction. People placed online bids for these numbers on the department's portal.
The number has been allotted to the person who placed the highest bid. Now, the selected applicants will deposit the prescribed amount with the department, after which the fancy number will be issued to their vehicles.
As per reports, a total of 1,000 numbers were up for grabs. However, 479 numbers received no bids. These number will now reportedly be sold at their reserve prices.
When the number series from 0001 to 9999 ends, a new series will be launched by the administration. For this, orders are issued by the Regional Transport Authority and it is displayed on the website of Transport Department, Chandigarh Administration.
A reserve price is kept for each number and after this, bids are placed on it. The number is sold to the person who bids the highest amount.
