A viral clip from journalist Shubhankar Mishra's podcast featuring Punjabi singer and actress Sunanda Sharma has come under police scrutiny after allegations that it contains objectionable remarks about a community and according to sources, the matter is currently being examined by the police.
ACP Central Rajesh Thakur said that the first priority of the investigation is to verify whether the viral audio and video clip is genuine or whether it has been manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) or deepfake technology.
The police have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the clip and officials said no conclusion has been reached at this stage, and the investigation is focused on establishing the facts before any legal action is considered.
ACP Rajesh Thakur said that if the investigation confirms that the viral clip is authentic and the alleged remarks were actually made, legal action can be taken against Shubhankar Mishra as per the law and until then, the police are verifying all available evidence.
The clip being examined is reportedly from the podcast 'Unplugged ft. Sunanda Sharma 2.0', which was released on YouTube on July 5, 2026 and the long-form interview featured Punjabi singer Sunanda Sharma speaking openly about her personal life, career, struggles, friendships and experiences in the entertainment industry.
Many clips from the podcast have been widely shared across social media, with users discussing different parts of the conversation, while several moments from the interview have received appreciation from viewers, one viral clip is now under police verification over allegations that it contains objectionable remarks about a community and as of now, the police have not confirmed whether the viral clip is genuine or manipulated, officials have stated that the authenticity of the audio and video will be verified first and any further legal action, if required, will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
