The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appointed its Punjab Member of Parliament Ashok Kumar Mittal as the new Deputy Leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha and the party has already sent a formal letter to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to complete the appointment process and at present Sanjay Singh continues to serve as the Leader of the party in the Upper House and also heads AAP’s parliamentary group.
Ashok Kumar Mittal has been a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab since March 2022 and before entering active politics he was widely known for his work in the field of education as he is the Founder Chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU) one of India’s largest private universities.
Mittal is known for focusing on education, research and social welfare and under his leadership LPU has run large scholarship programs, giving financial support to thousands of students including those from weaker sections and those with disabilities and his work has also included promoting research and improving learning opportunities for students.
In Parliament Mittal has taken part in several important discussions. Time and again he has put forth issues related to farmers, unemployment, education and economic challenges and also asked questions and participated in debates on key national matters, showing active involvement in parliamentary work.
Apart from this he has been involved in social service activities such as organizing blood donation camps, supporting disaster relief efforts and working on village development projects and his initiatives have focused on improving infrastructure and creating opportunities for young people.
With this new responsibility Mittal is expected to play an important role in representing AAP’s views in the Rajya Sabha and his experience in education and public service is likely to influence the party’s approach on important issues in the Upper House and this appointment is being seen as a significant step by the party as it strengthens its leadership team in Parliament.
