The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday named its Punjab MP Ashok Kumar Mittal as the party’s new Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha and with this decision Ashok Kumar Mittal replaces Raghav Chadha who had been serving as the Deputy Leader in the Upper House.
The party has sent a formal communication to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to complete the process of appointing Mittal to the role and at the present Sanjay Singh continues as the Leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha and also serves as the chairperson of the AAP parliamentary party.
AAP currently has 10 members in the Rajya Sabha with a significant number representing Punjab which remains the only state where the party is in power and the MPs from Punjab include Ashok Kumar Mittal, Raghav Chadha, Rajinder Gupta, Sandeep Kumar Pathak, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Harbhajan Singh and Sant Balbir Singh.
The party’s representation from Delhi in the Upper House includes Swati Maliwal, Narain Dass Gupta and Sanjay Singh.
