Slowly and steadily, winter is peaking in North India, including Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Both states are witnessing freezing nights and relatively milder afternoons. However, Himachal Pradesh is a hilly region known for its multiple popular tourist spots like Shimla and Manali.
With Christmas 2025 approaching, winter holidays are set to begin. During the winter holidays, Shimla generally sees a large footfall of tourists. Tourists head to the hill city during the winters expecting to witness live snowfall.
Notably, multiple areas of Himachal Pradesh are already on snowfall alert. Meteorological Centre Shimla on December 6 issued a snowfall alert in Himachal Pradesh.
Meteorological Centre Shimla has predicted that snowfall at isolated areas on December 7, 2025. Snowfall is predicted in high hill areas and higher reaches of Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu districts.
However, there is no rainfall or snowfall alert in Shimla for the time being. Now, question arises will Shimla witness 'White Christmas' this year or will Shimla witness snowfall on Christmas 2025?
As per AccuWeather report, it is highly unlikely that Shimla will witness snowfall on December 25 this year. However, the weather website predicts that Shimla will witness rainfall on December 26, 2025. 86 percent of skies of Shimla will be covered by clouds.
The answer is yes but only a few times. As per reports, Shimla has witnessed 'White Christmas' only a handful of times. The rarity of snowfall in Shimla on Christmas can be understood by the fact that the last time it snowed in Shimla on Christmas Day was in 2016, that too, after a gap of two decades. However, some years between 2014 to 2018 did see a small spell of pre-Christmas snowfall.
Before this, Shimla has witnessed snowfall on twice only (1989, 91) for Christmas Eve and four times (1990, 95, 2000, 2002) for on New Yea's Eve.
And going by AccuWeather predictions, it is highly unlikely that Shimla will witness snowfall on December 25.
