Chhattisgarh: Government School Teacher thrashes students for fasting on Janmashtami, suspended

The teacher Charan Markam, is not only accused of beating up students but also made objectionable comments against a Hindu god.

A case of a teacher has come to lightabout her objectionable behavior toward Lord Krishna and beating upstudents those fasting on Janmashtami festival. Let us share that this incidentwas reported from a government school in Chhattisgarh. The case pertains to amiddle school in Bundapara village under Kondagaon district, about 200kilometers from the capital Raipur. According to media reports, the accusedteacher Charan Makam has been suspended after an initial inquiry.

The village panchayat and local villagers hadcomplained that Markam had allegedly thrashed some students of Classes 7 and 8in the school on Tuesday for observing fast on Janmashtami and also madeobjectionable comments against Lord Krishna, he said.

The villagers had submitted audio and videoevidence in support of their allegations, Meena said.

Subsequently, a government official was sentto conduct an inquiry and based on his report, the teacher was suspended withimmediate effect, he said.

A report in this regard has been forwarded topolice for further action the matter, the collector added.

The suspension order stated, “Hurtingreligious sentiments and spreading hatred in the society comes under the categoryof serious misconduct.

The authorities said that the actions of theaccused teacher were in violation of the Chhattisgarh Civil Service Rules 1965which led to his suspension. The Kondagaon police said that a case was not yetregistered against the Teacher. The police said ‘We have got a report from thedistrict administration that a case has not been registered yet but requiredactions would be taken after a proper investigation’.

Besides, a counter complaint has beenreceived from the Sarva Adivasi Samaj, an association of tribal communities,claiming the teacher was manhandled by locals," a senior police officialsaid and assured necessary action.
