The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday hasquashed the reports of revising the examination guidelines in the wake of Covid-19pandemic.
UGC has issued the notice claiming that “incorrect newsregarding UGC guidelines on examination has been floating on print and digitalmedia.”
In an official notification the top education bodycleared that, “UGC has not yet issued any guidelines on examination recentlyand the news is incorrect.”
UGC has further clarified that it had issued theguidelines on Examinations and Academic Calendar from time to time during lastyear.
"Further UGC vide letter dated May 6, 2021, hasrequested the universities to keep the offline examination in abeyance duringthe month of May 2021," it added.
It may be noted here that last week, the UGC had directedthe universities to not conduct the offline exams in May in the wake ofoverwhelming cases of Covid-19. It further added that the institutes canconduct online examinations after assessing the local conditions.
The UGC had issued the letter earlier to all universitiesand colleges stating that during the ongoing Covdi-19 pandemic, the health and safetyof everyone is of utmost importance.
Apart from this, the Education Ministry had directed all Centre-fundedinstitutions (IITs, NITs, IIITs, IIMs, etc) to drop the idea of conductingoffline examination in May at the side for some time. Notably, the EducationMinistry will review the situation again in the first week of June 2021 todecide on the conduct of examinations.
