Farmers celebrate at Ghazipur border to mark one year of protest

The farmers have been camping at three border points of Delhi from November 26-27 last year.

Hundreds of farmers in tractors startedarriving at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border as Friday marked oneyear of the ongoing protests against the three Central laws.

The farmers have been camping at three borderpoints of Delhi — Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur — for the last one year. Themovement against three new farm laws of the Centre began with a “Dilli Chalo”programme on November 26-27 last year.

“It has been a year of unmatched strugglemixed with happiness and sadness. We are fighting and winning. We will fightand win. MSP law is farmers' right,” BKU national spokesperson Rakesh Tikaittweeted in Hindi.

Farmers have been protesting the government'sthree farm laws. These are the Farmer's Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotionand Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreementof Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020.

In a major move, Prime Minister Narendra Modion November 19th announced the repealing of the three Central farm laws.

Prime Minister said, “Today I want to telleveryone that we have decided to repeal all three farm laws”. 

He further said that, “Three laws were infarmers' benefit but we couldn't convince a section of farmers despite bestefforts”. 

He also explained that the government broughtthe farm laws for the welfare of the farmers and with noble intentions butfailed to convince a section of farmers despite best efforts. Prime MinisterNarendra Modi said, “Our government had brought these laws with completedevotion to the farmers with full sincerity, especially in the interest ofsmall farmers, but despite this, we failed to convince some farmers. We kept onexplaining to the farmers with utmost humility. We left no stone unturned tounderstand the farmers' point of view. The government agreed to change theprovisions of the law on which they had objections. Friends, today is the holyfestival of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, I have come today to inform the entire countrythat we have decided to take the decision to withdraw all three agriculturallaws. This month we will complete the process of taking it back.”
