An Indian Air Force Bison MiG-21 fighter aircraft crashedat Langiana Khurd village of Baghapurana in Moga district of Punjab early thisFriday in which the pilot has been reportedly dead, IAF officials said.
It is being learnt that the aircraft was on a routinetraining sortie when the accident took place and the pilot, Sqn Ldr AbhinavChoudhary, sustained fatal injuries.
The Air Force officials, in a statement said, “There wasan aircraft accident last night involving a Bison aircraft of the IAF in thewestern sector. The pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, succumbed to his injuries.IAF condoles the tragic loss and stands firmly with the bereaved family”.
As per information from a senior IAF officer, the incidenttook place around 1 am when the aircraft was on a routine training sortie.Meanwhile, this is the third crash of a MiG-21 aircraft in 2021.
When asked about the cause of the accident, he said thatthe cause and the damages are yet to be known.

In March, a Group Captain of the IAF was killed in anaccident involving a MiG-21 aircraft at an airbase in central India. GroupCaptain A Gupta was killed in the accident. A court of inquiry was ordered todetermine the cause of the accident.
In January, a MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Forcecrashed near Suratgarh in Rajasthan. The pilot of the aircraft managed to ejectsafely from the aircraft.
