Interesting facts: With World-Class amenities, Jewar Airport will be Asia’s Biggest

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the Noida International Airport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laidthe foundation stone for the grand inauguration of the Noida InternationalAirport (NIA) in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The NoidaInternational Airport (NIA) will be the second international airport to come upin the national capital region, after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

As per an official press release, the airportat Jewar will help decongest the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport inthe National Capital. It is strategically located and will serve the people ofcities including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad andneighbouring areas, the release added.

Here are some important facts aboutJewar Airport:

·      Theairport is being developed by Swiss concessionaire Zurich International AirportAG's subsidiary Yamuna International Airport Private Limited for the UttarPradesh government.

·      Thefirst phase of the project is spread over 1,300 hectares and would cost morethan Rs 10,000 crore, it is expected to be ready by October 2024.

·      Thecost for the Jewar Airport is estimated to be around Rs 30,000 crore.

·      TheNoida airport will be India's first net-zero emissions airport.

·      Itwill be the fourth largest international airport in the world and the projectwould create more than one lakh job opportunities, according to the UttarPradesh government.

·      Oncecompleted, this will be Asia's biggest airport.

·      Thiswill be the fifth international airport in Uttar Pradesh on completion.

·      Theairport at Jewar will help decongest the Indira Gandhi International (IGI)airport in the national capital. It is strategically located and will serve thepeople of cities including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabadand neighbouring areas.

·      Thisis also the first time in India, an airport has been conceptualised with anintegrated multi-modal cargo hub.

·      Theairport, the second international aerodrome in Delhi-National Capital Region,is expected to be operational by September 2024 with an initial capacity tohandle 1.2 crore passengers per annum.
