Haryana’s Nuh district is goingthrough the tense situation since May 16 after a 27-year-old gym instructor’sbody was found hours after his abduction allegedly by the people of his ownvillage. A day after his death, #JusticeforAsif trend on Twitter as people termit is Hindu-Muslim lynching.
Owing to the circumstances, thePolice had to resort to baton charge agitated mob and open fire rounds todisperse the crowd at the site of protests in the District. Also, those whoattended the victim’s funeral on May 17 pelted stones at the police.
The victim has been identified asAsif Hussain, a resident of Kheda Khalilpur in Nuh. He was abducted by someunidentified men while he was out with his cousins to buy some medicines. Asper the reports, Asif and his cousins were initially chased by 12 men and itended up beating them. The miscreant group took Asif away while leaving hiscousins at the previous spot.
According to the complainants,the attackers shot Hussain and used other weapons on him too. However, hoursafter the incident his body was recovered.
Clearing the air onHindu-Muslim lynching, Nuh Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh said therewas no "Hindu-Muslim angle" to the incident. Reportedly, the grouphad an ongoing feud which was often resolved by the seniors of the village.
It may be noted here that thepolice have arrested the key accused who is a resident of Asif’s village alongwith some others while a few of them are absconding.
“Both the groups face cases under sections of the Arms Act and for assault. Sixaccused have been arrested. An SIT has been constituted which is probing thecase,” Singh said.
Earliertoday, an autopsy of Asif’s body was conducted. The police have also detained as many as 10persons who allegedly pelted stones at the police during the funeral.
Accordingto a Local Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed, the accused were persons of a"crooked nature". He has also sought justice for Atif’s death.
Meanwhile, the agitated mob had blocked the Kundali - Manesar - Palwal Expressway late lastnight over the killing. To disperse the crowd from the spots the police had toresort to baton charge. During the protests, the mob shattered the windshield ofvehicles too.
SP Singh has also appealed tothe protesters to be patient and assured that the police was with the victim'sfamily. All efforts will be made to conduct the trial in a fast-track court.
