‘My stand remains unchanged’, says Navjot Sidhu after meeting Congress Panel in Delhi

The committee is expected to meet the chief minister later before submitting a report to the high command.

Aday after meeting with other Punjab Congress ministers and MLAs in New Delhi,the Congress panel today met former Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, the biggestrival of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, within the party.

NavjotSidhu in the recent past had repeatedly targeted Amarinder Singh over sacrilegeissue, and alleged that the Congress CM is hand in gloves with the Badals i.e.Shiromani Akali Dal.

Sidhuafter the meeting said, “My stand remains unchanged and I came here today topresent the people's voices - from grassroots to the High Command. I believethe power of the people must return to them. I have clearly stated the truth”he added.

Itis being learnt that meeting between Sidhu and Congress panel lasted for nearlytwo hours. After the meeting, Sidhu appeared upbeat and confident in front ofthe media for a byte and said, "Punjab, Punjabiyat and Punjabis will win.All anti-Punjab forces have to be defeated."

Hefurther added that his top agenda is that the power of the people of Punjab -the taxes they pay -- should return to the people in whatever form possible.

Meanwhile,in the Monday meet Congress state president Sunil Jakhar met the committeeconstituted by party president Sonia Gandhi comprising of Mallikarjun Kharge,JP Aggarwal and General Secretary In charge of the state Harish Rawat.

Apartfrom Sunil Jakhar, ministers in the Punjab government, Sunder Sham Arora,Charanjit Channi, Aruna Chowdhry, Brahm Mohindra, OP Soni, Manpreet Badal,Tript Bajwa, Rana Sodhi and Sukhjinder Randhawa also met the committee onMonday.

Sourcessaid the committee will perform a balancing act between the two factions. Sidhuand one non Sikh leader may be appointed as Deputy Chief Ministers. Thecommittee is expected to meet the chief minister later before submitting areport to the high command.

Mostof the MLAs complained about arbitrary actions by the CM but the key concernwas the government's inability to bring to book the culprits in the desecrationof Guru Granth Sahib and police firing during peaceful protests in 2015, whichwas in the party election manifesto.
