The strife in Punjab Congress is yet to be resolved inorder to accommodate Navjot Singh Sidhu in the state unit however, amidst allthis the cricketer-turned-politician has opened another camp against the IncomeTax Department.
Navjot Sidhu has now moved to Punjab and Haryana HighCourt challenging the Income Tax Joint Commissioner, Amritsar’s denial to revisehis return. As of now, the High Court has adjourned the matter till July 27without issuing any notice.
It is to be reiterated here, in the year 2016-2017, whilefiling his income tax return Sidhu had shown income of INR 9, 66, 28, 470against the finance department’s record of INR 13, 19, 66, 530. Notably, he hadfiled his return on 19 October 2016.
However, on March 13, 2019, the Income Tax Departmentadded INR3, 53, 38, 67 to his income of the given year.
Agitated of the fact, Sidhu had asked the Income TaxCommissioner to revise his annual income as wrong assessment was done for theFY2016-2017.
However, on March 27 of 2021, the Joint Commissioner hasrejected Sidhu’s request to carry out a revision.
In his petition, Sidhu has said that the Income TaxCommissioner has rejected his revision on very frivolous grounds, completelyignoring the facts which insisted him to move the High Court to quashthe decision of the Income Tax Commissioner.
