Legendary cricketerand Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is among the celebrities named in the'Pandora Papers' leak which claims to have exposed the offshore dealings ofworld leaders, politicians, celebrities, and billionaires. The financialsecrets of celebrities and well-known personalities including current andformer world leaders have been reportedly uncovered by millions of leakeddocuments dubbed as the Pandora Papers.
The InternationalConsortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), which involved the BBC and TheGuardian newspaper in the UK and ‘The Indian Express’ in India among 150media outlets in its investigation, claims it obtained the trove of more than11.9 million confidential files to find secret financial dealings of many superrich.
Tendulkar's attorney claimed the cricketer's investment is lawful and has beenreported to tax authorities.
The King ofJordan, the Presidents of Ukraine, Kenya, and Ecuador, the Prime Minister ofthe Czech Republic, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair are allnamed in the Pandora Papers.
According to thereport, over 300 Indians have been exposed as a result of the leaked papers,including individuals suspected of economic crimes, former members ofParliament, and those under investigation by law enforcement authorities.
The files alsoindicate that when former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wifeacquired a London office, they saved £312,000 in stamp duty.
While the transactionwas not unlawful and did not directly connect the Blairs, the agreement didexpose a gap that allowed rich property owners to avoid paying taxes, accordingto the Guardian.
Russian PresidentVladimir Putin is reportedly linked to undisclosed assets in Monaco,according to the leak.
While Putin is notmentioned directly in the documents, several of his close friends are,including a childhood buddy and a former sweetheart.
