PM Modi speaks to Bengal Governor over post poll violence in West Bengal

Earlier, after the assembly election results were announced, BJP candidate from Nandigram constituency Suvendu Adhikari was attacked by TMC workers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to West BengalGovernor, Jagdeep Dhankar after post-polls violence occurred in West Bengal. Heshowed anguish and expressed his concerns over the deteriorating law andcondition in the state.

Allegedly TMC workers torched BJP party offices andlooted homes. The clash resulted in the deaths of nine BJP workers as claimedby the party.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankar tweeted, “PM called andexpressed his serious anguish and concern at alarmingly worrisome law and ordersituation. I share grave concerns given that violence, vandalism, arson, loot,and killings continue unabated. Concerned must act in overdrive to restoreorder.”

However, TMC has denied the accusations, and MamataBanerjee has appealed for peace across the state.

Dilip Ghosh, BJP’s West Bengal unit chief said, “At leastnine persons have been killed in the last 24 hours. A few hundred houses havebeen ransacked. Reports of violence were pouring in from all constituencies. Wehave shared video clippings.”

Following the violence, BJP said that it will hold anationwide dharna on May 5. On the same day, TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee isexpected to take oath as Chief Minister for the third time.

Earlier, after the assembly election results wereannounced, BJP candidate from Nandigram constituency Suvendu Adhikari wasattacked by TMC workers. Stones were pelted on Adhikari’s vehicle after whichhe lashed out at TMC and accused them of creating an environment of terror inBengal.

Today, on May 4, BJP National President JP Nadda hasreached Bengal to give strength to BJP workers. BJP National SecretaryBhupender Yadav, National Secretary BL Santosh, and Minister of State forExternal Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan along with JP Naddaare going to visit the homes of BJP workers who have been killed in theviolence.
