India Oxenberg, a film producer, felt she was joining a "sisterhood" when Smallville actress Allison Mack persuaded her to join a "secret sorority" within the now-infamous sex cult NXIVM.
"I was surprised to receive a letter from her, and the tone felt honest and sad, as well as... like she has seen the truth of who Keith Raniere is," India adds. "Knowing that everything my mother and I have done and said has had an effect on her was validating in and of itself."
"I don't see why I must not accept her apologies," she says. "It doesn't cover for all that has occurred to myself and her other victims, but it does give me more peace moving forward."
Catherine says she trusts the judge's decision on Mack's three-year prison sentence, which is significantly less than the federal sentencing guidelines of 14 to 17 1/2 years.
Catherine comments, "He is tremendously wise, and if this is the penalty he has chosen for Allison, it is justice." "He believes this woman is sincere and remorseful, and he wants to give her another chance." And I admire him."
"I believe the world is India's oyster," Catherine says. "She has emerged stronger, she has found her voice, she is passionately involved in activism and all of that.”
