Sourav Ganguly confirms his biopic; Will Ranbir Kapoor play the lead?

The date of release for the Sourav Ganguly biopic has still not been revealed.

Former India captain and current BCCIpresident Sourav Ganguly's biopic has been announced. The former captainhimself tweeted out the news on Thursday about the movie.

While the date of release for the biopicthough is yet to be revealed, it will be produced by Luv Films and could bedirected by Luv Ranjan.

Sourav Ganguly said that he was"thrilled" about an upcoming biopic on him. "Cricket hasbeen my life, it gave confidence and ability to walk forward with my head heldhigh, a journey to be cherished," Ganguly tweeted. "Thrilled that LuvFilms will produce a biopic on my journey and bring it to life for the bigscreen," he added.

Ganguly, fondly called Dada, is one of themost successful skippers in the history of Indian cricket and currently servesas President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Luv Films, the production house founded byfilmmaker Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, shared the film announcement on InstagramThursday.

"We are thrilled to announce that LuvFilms will produce Dada Sourav Ganguly's biopic," the statement read.

"We are honoured to be entrusted withthis responsibility and look forward to a great innings," the producersfurther said.

Ganguly played in 113 Tests and scored 7,212runs for India while finishing with 11,363 runs in 311 ODIs.

The Prince of Kolkata as he was fondly known,was also one of the most successful captains for India, taking the team to thefinal of the ODI World Cup in 2003 and to greater heights in Tests.

The likes of MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin,hockey player Sandeep Singh, Saina Nehwal, Milkha Singh, Mary Kom are amongsome athletes on whom sports biopics that have already been made in Bollywood.
