Renowned cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is facing a backlash overcomments made about Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma in a Royal ChallengersBangalore match.
Commenting on Indian and RCB captain and Anushka Sharma'shusband Virat Kohli, Gavaskar said, "Virat has been practicing withAnushka during the lockdown." Many people were outraged by the remark,demanding that Gavaskar should be removed from the commentary box for the rest ofthe 2020 IPL season.
Even Anushka Sharma in a counter statement on social mediasaid that Gavaskar should refrain from his nonsensical remarks. The veterancricketer has clarified that he was talking about a video of Anushka Sharma andVirat Kohli playing cricket at home which went viral on social media during thelockdown.
"As you can hear from the comment, Akash (Chopra) and Iwere doing commentary for the Hindi channel," Gavaskar said. Akash wastalking about the fact that everyone has very little chance of proper practice.Gavaskar said that it was actuallyin the rustiness of some players in their first matches..
He emphasized the fact that he was not trying to be a sexistbut was trying to say that the players had less opportunity to practice duringthe lockdown.
Gavaskar's explanation has divided public opinion into twoparts on twitter where it has become a major talking point between men andwomen.
