Unseasonal rain lashes parts of Delhi-NCR as weak Tauktae approaches

Tauktae is heading north-eastwards with a speed of about 7 kmph during past six hours -- nothing compared to over 210 kmph when it hit Porbandar on Monday.

Delhiand the National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed overcast sky and continuingdrizzle on Wednesday with the weather department forecast of more rain as aweakened Tauktae approached.

Thundershowerwith gusty winds with heavy showers was seen at some places of Uttar Pradesh'sNoida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, Baghpat and other NCRregions, as well as all districts of Delhi.

Partsof north India, including Delhi and NCR, saw overcast skies and light rain onTuesday too under the impact of cyclone Tauktae, which made landfall in Gujaraton Monday night, and after weakening considerably, is heading inland towardsDelhi.

NationalWeather Forecasting Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) hasforecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Delhi, West UttarPradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh, and heavy rainfall atisolated places over Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and WestRajasthan in the next 24 hours.

Asper the IMD, the sudden weather change is due to the deep depression (remnantof the extremely severe cyclonic storm "Tauktae") that ravaged coastsof Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra Diu and Gujarat earlier.

IMDforecast said while the rainfall activity in and around the national capital onWednesday is likely to be intense, on Thursday, there is only a possibility ofdrizzle in some parts.

Thecyclone weakened into a depression and lay centered at 5.30 a.m. on Wednesdaynear latitude 24.3 degree north and longitude 73.3 degree east over southRajasthan and adjoining Gujarat region, about 60 km west-southwest of Udaipur(Rajasthan) and 110 km east-northeast of Deesa (Gujarat region).

CycloneTauktae is very likely to move north-eastwards and weaken gradually into awell-marked low-pressure area in the next 12 hours (till 5.30 a.m. Thursday),it said.
