The much-awaited crime thriller Delhi Crime: Season 3 (Delhi Crime Season 3) was released on Netflix on November 13. Ever since its release, Delhi Crime Season 3 has been buzzing among fans on social media. Many are lavishing praise on the makers while a few have been expressing their disappointment as the series is not up to the mark according to them.
Directed by Tanuj Chopra, Delhi Crime: Season 3 is a crime thriller inspired by real events from Baby Falak case that went onto unearth a massive human trafficking racket in India.
The series majorly revolves around DIG Vartika Chaturvedi aka Madam Sir and her team that also has IPS Neeti Singh. DIG Vartika Chaturvedi and her team investigate a human trafficking case along with Baby Noor (name in the series) case.
One of the characters that have caught attention is John Gupta. Now, the question arises whether the character of John Gupta is inspired by real life Thailand-based businessman or not? Continue reading below to know the details-
The answer is yes and no at the same time. The character is John Gupta is played by Bhutanese actor Kelly Dorji ️. John is a Thailand-based businessman who buys trafficked women including teenagers on high price from Meena aka Badi Didi portrayed by Huma Qureshi.
Delhi Crime Season 3 which is said to be inspired by real life events especially on the human trafficking case that emerged out of the Baby Falak Case has shocked Meena selling girls to John Gupta in Thailand.
John then gives order of 40 girls to Meena and agrees to pay Rs 15 lakh for each girl. In the meantime, DIG Vartika Chaturvedi intensifies her investigation.
Notably, the makers have not clarified whether John Gupta's character is inspired by real Thailand-based businessman or not.
However, as per a report published by Global Citizen in 2017 outlined that a 16-year-old girl from Hyderabad, in India, was sold for $7,800 as a bride to an Omani sheikh.
HT also reported in 2014 that female foeticide has made bride trade a roaring business. Bride trade has been showcased in Delhi Crime Season 3.
It is pertinent to mention here that there are reports available that suggests human trafficking from India to Thailand, but those cases are not linked to the case that has been shown in Delhi Crime Season 3.
