Is Saiyaara a true story?

The answer is no. Saiyaara is a fictional story inspired by super-hit Korean movie named A Moment to Remember that was released on 2004. Although Saiyaara is a fictional story featuring Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, there are few references used in the movie that are real.

One of the references that have been used in the movie when a neurologist informs Vani that she has been diagonised with Alzheimer’s disease. The doctor informs that although Alzheimer’s in youths is very rare almost 0.4%, it can happen to youths as well.

The doctor then gives the example that a 17-year-old boy in China was also diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. And, guess what, the reference is real.

17-year-old Chinese boy who suffered Alzheimer’s disease

As per South China Morning Post, a 19-year-old Chinese man was diagnosed with "probable" Alzheimer's disease after symptoms began at age 17, making him the youngest known case.

He was diagnosed with probable Alzheimer’s disease after his memory declined gradually over two years, according to researchers from Capital Medical University’s Xuanwu Hospital in Beijing.

The patient had characteristics typical of Alzheimer’s disease, including memory loss and hippocampal atrophy, a shrinkage that is an early marker of the disease.

They ruled out other causes that may have induced the patient’s cognitive impairment and concluded that he met the diagnostic criteria for probable Alzheimer’s disease.

EOAD aka Early-onset Alzheimer’s disease is an uncommon form of dementia that affects people younger than 65. It accounts for 5 to 10 per cent of all cases of Alzheimer’s disease.

As per the report, almost all Alzheimer’s disease patients younger than 30 have pathological gene mutations. To date, the youngest person known to have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease was a 21-year-old who carried a gene mutation.

As per the Study, two years before the consultation in hospital, the patient began having difficulties concentrating on his high school studies. His situation worsened a year later when he began suffering from an apparent loss of short-term memory.
