Air travel from Amritsar Airport disrupted, 25 flights cancelled in 2 days over fog, other reasons

Bhupendra Singh, Amritsar Airport Director, informed that flight that was supposed to depart for Dubai at 16:20 has been cancelled for today.

Flight services have been disrupted in Punjab and other parts of North India ever since dense fog has started to blanket the cities. Latest disruption comes at Amritsar's Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport. Flight for Dubai from Amritsar has been cancelled for the day.

Bhupendra Singh, Amritsar Airport Director, informed True Scoop, that flight that was supposed to depart for Dubai at 16:20 has been cancelled for today. However, flight to Sharjah from Amritsar at 13:23 departed on time.

On being asked whether fog the reason why flight for Dubai from Amritsar has been cancelled, he informed that currently, Amritsar Airport is not blanketed in fog. Hence, the decision to cancel flight to Dubai for the day has been taken by the airline over operational reasons.

25 flights cancelled from Amritsar Airport in 2 days

Amritsar Airport Director further informed that multiple flights have been cancelled in last 2 days. He informed that on Friday, a total of 17 flights (including arrivals & departures) were cancelled from Amritsar Airport.

On Saturday i.e. December 20, a total of 8 flights have been cancelled till now. Bhupendra Singh further informed that while most of the flights have been cancelled due to fog, many also have been cancelled by airlines due to operational reasons.

"Sometimes, due to fog prediction, and seeing the weather, an airline cancels the flight in advance. Then, the flight is used on another route," said Bhupendra Singh, Amritsar Airport Director.
