The counting of votes for the municipal elections in Kapurthala was completed peacefully today. In the 50 wards of the Municipal Corporation, the Congress Party under the leadership of MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh delivered an impressive performance by winning 31 seats and retained its control over the corporation house. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party had to settle for 11 seats. The BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal won 3 seats each, while 2 independent candidates also emerged victorious.
On the other hand, the counting process for the 13 wards of the Sultanpur Lodhi Municipal Council was conducted under tight security arrangements at the BDPO office in Sultanpur Lodhi. Here, 7 candidates supported by independent MLA Rana Inder Pratap won the elections, establishing their dominance. Meanwhile, 5 candidates from the Aam Aadmi Party managed to secure victories, while the Shiromani Akali Dal won only 1 seat.
According to information, the counting process at the strong room set up in Virsa Vihar, Kapurthala, began at 8 a.m. amid strict security arrangements. The counting was completed in four rounds. In each round, ballot boxes from 14 wards were opened, and ballot papers were counted in the presence of candidates and their agents.
After the four-phase counting process, Congress maintained its dominance in the Municipal Corporation by winning the highest number of wards, 31 in total. The Aam Aadmi Party succeeded in winning 11 wards, while the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal secured only 3 seats each. In addition, 2 independent candidates also won by a good margin.
