Questions are being raised over police investigation in death case of government doctor Dr. Meenakshi after eye surgeon Dr. Piyush Sood who is named in FIR filed an anticipatory bail application while police teams are still searching for him.
Dr. Piyush Sood, who has been absconding for six days approached court seeking anticipatory bail. The court has issued a notice to police and called for the case file and the next hearing has been scheduled for June 19 meanwhile police officials say efforts are continuing to locate the accused. ACP Manmohan Singh ACP Model Town said the post-mortem report is still awaited and only after report is received will the exact circumstances become clear. He said police teams conducted raids twice at locations linked to accused but found the house locked on both occasions and according to ACP continuous efforts are being made to trace and apprehend him.
The case relates to death of Dr. Meenakshi who was a government doctor posted at a hospital in Kapurthala and her body was found under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Keval Vihar on morning of June 10 and according to police domestic help Rajni knocked on door but received no response. Information was later passed on to local residents and police following which officers reached the spot and broke a windowpane to enter the house as all doors were locked from inside. Dr. Meenakshi was found lying on the floor.
Following a complaint by her father Pramod Kumar police registered a case under Section 108 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which deals with abetment of suicide. The family has made several allegations against Dr. Piyush Sood including claims of mental and physical harassment, financial disputes and an alleged extra-marital relationship and the family has also alleged that loans were taken in Dr. Meenakshi's name, they claim she had been living separately from her husband since 2025 and was considering divorce proceedings.
The father has further alleged that his daughter was under severe mental stress due to marital and financial issues and some allegations including claims of physical assault and an earlier attempt to strangulate her have not been officially confirmed and remain part of the ongoing investigation. Police officials have stated that further action will depend on post-mortem report evidence collected during investigation and statements of concerned persons and the family has demanded a thorough probe and strict action if any wrongdoing is established.
As of now the post-mortem report is awaited and police say the search for accused is continuing.
