ED gets two more days to question AAP leader Sanjeev Arora over alleged fake GST deals

Sanjeev Arora was arrested by Enforcement Directorate on May 9 under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA)

AAP leader Sanjeev Arora was taken into custody at Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) for two additional days as per the orders of the Gurugram district court due to the allegations raised against him in connection with a money laundering case and ED had brought the minister in front of the court after completing his remand period of seven days and requested for extension of remand period by five days but in hearing both sides, court gave two-day remand to ED instead of five days.

Sanjeev Arora was arrested by Enforcement Directorate on May 9 under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the case against the minister relates to financial irregularities of crores of rupees.

As per the officials of Enforcement Directorate, the minister is being questioned about his involvement in alleged irregularities in his financial transaction activities and forgery of documents and ED officials have accused the minister of altering GST record in the purchase and sale of mobile phones and goods using firms related to him.

Moreover, ED claims that the transactions of Rs 157.12 crore are fake transactions relating to purchase of mobile phones and the transactions made through shell companies in terms of exports.

Before his arrest ED conducted raids on May 9 at multiple locations connected to Arora and searches were carried out at his official residence in Chandigarh as well as several other locations in Delhi and Gurugram and following the ED action ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held protests across different parts of Punjab alleging political targeting and after Arora’s arrest the Punjab government also redistributed the departments that were earlier under his charge to other ministers.

Meanwhile Arora has approached Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging ED’s action against him and investigation in the matter is currently ongoing and ED is expected to continue questioning the minister during extended remand period.
