In a bizarre development, a fake police naka was set up near PIMS Hospital in Jalandhar. The incident came to the fore when youths on two bikes were stopped at checkpoint, and were asked to pay the challan. The incident reportedly involved a gunman and two youths in plain clothes. A video of a heated argument between them and local youths went viral on social media.
Aakashdeep Singh, a resident of Urban Estate Phase-3, alleged that he was returning from a restaurant after celebrating his friend Pavandeep Singh’s birthday along with four friends on two motorcycles. When they reached the turn near PIMS Hospital, they found a police personnel (gunman) standing there along with two youths in civil clothes.
According to Aakashdeep, the police personnel stopped them and began intimidating them by citing the absence of a rear number plate on one of the motorcycles.
When questioned about which police station the checkpoint belonged to, the police personnel allegedly gave different replies.
First, he claimed to be from Police Station No. 7, then Police Station No. 6, and later stating that he was part of the Special Staff.
The youths alleged that they were threatened with challans and being taken to the police station, but were later pressured to 'settle' the matter on the spot. When Aakashdeep started recording the incident on his mobile phone, the police personnel and the two youths reportedly left the spot without taking any action.
Following the incident, Aakashdeep and his friends went to Police Station No. 7 and showed the video, where they were informed that the concerned police personnel was not posted there.
Now, ACP Model Town Parminder Singh has shared an update in the case. He said that, Mani Kumar is posted on security duty under the Jalandhar Commissionerate.
Taking action in the viral video, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has immediately directed Constable Mani Kumar to report to the police lines. Both parties related to the video will be summoned, and appropriate action will be taken as per law after examining the facts.
