Halwara Airport ready for take off, flight bookings to open next week

CM Mann advocates for international flights from Punjab airports, including Halwara and suggests routes to countries like Canada, US, Australia & UK

Good news lands in Ludhiana as flights from Halwara Airport are ready to take off, in a key development for air connectivity in Punjab, Air India is preparing to start flight operations between Ludhiana and Delhi from Halwara Airport soon.

According to Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran informed him that flight bookings will likely open next week with actual flights set to begin within 15 days of bookings starting.

Approvals already in place

Officials confirmed that Airports Authority of India has completed all formalities required to start operations at Halwara Airport and the airport has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Air Force with AAI clearance to Air India to operate flights. Reportedly, two daily flights have been approved as of now one in the morning and one in the evening.

To support operations, Air India has already secured office space inside the Halwara terminal, and setup work is expected to begin shortly and AAI has also asked the airline to start services at the earliest possible time.

Push for international flights

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also urged the Tata Group to consider launching international flights from Punjab airports, including Halwara and suggests routes to countries like Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom, highlighting strong demand from the Punjabi diaspora.

What this means for travellers?

Once operational, these flights will:

  • Provide direct air connectivity from Ludhiana to Delhi

  • Save time for passengers who currently travel to other cities for flights

  • Boost business and travel convenience in the region 

For now, all eyes are on the booking announcement next week, which will mark the final step before Halwara Airport becomes fully operational for commercial flights.
