IMD issues yellow alert in Punjab: Heavy rain forecast till July 24, dry spell to follow

IMD Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert for Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar till July 24, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Weather to clear up from July 25 onwards.

Witnessing the ongoing rain spell across the state, the India Meteorological Department, Chandigarh (IMD), has issued a yellow alert in some regions and districts of Punjab for the next two days.

As per the update, some states will continue to witness rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. However, surprisingly, the weather conditions will take a turn, and the remaining week (from July 25) will witness less or no rainfall.

July 23, 2025

Wednesday

The IMD has issued yellow alerts across three districts of the state, along with very heavy to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Accordingly, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar will witness the above-mentioned weather conditions.

Along with this, heavy rainfall will be witnessed in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Fatehgarh Sahib.

July 24, 2025

Thursday

On Thursday, Pathankot and Hoshiarpur will continue to witness a yellow alert, and it is predicted that Gurdaspur will also report a yellow alert. Furthermore, heavy rainfall could be recorded in districts including Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, and Nawanshahar.

The remaining parts of the state will see less to no rainfall.

Friday

The weekend will bring relief with rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning.

According to the reports by IMD, there will be no to less rainfall on July 25, July 26, and July 27.
