Jalandhar recorded a maximum temperature of around 32°C on Saturday, September 26, while the minimum remained near 24°C, although the day was slightly cooler than the city’s long-term September average, with the maximum temperature around 2°C below the seasonal average of roughly 34°C.
The comparison with the same date last year also shows a difference.
On September 26, 2025, Jalandhar recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5°C and this means Saturday’s maximum was around 2.4°C lower than the corresponding day last year, however, temperature data for the entire month presents a different picture.
Between September 1 and September 26 this year, Jalandhar’s average daily maximum temperature was around 32.9°C. During the same period in September 2025, the average maximum was around 32.3°C, while minimum temperatures during the two periods were broadly similar.
This means that while September 26 is cooler than the same day last year, the month so far has not been colder overall and the data shows September 2026 has remained close to normal, with daytime temperatures slightly higher than the corresponding period last year.
The current weather also comes against a larger national temperature trend recorded by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to IMD data, the period from 2016 to 2025 was India’s warmest decade on record and the year 2024 was the country’s warmest year on record, with an average temperature of 25.75°C, which was 0.65°C above the long-term average.
IMD recorded an even larger rise in minimum temperatures during 2024. Nighttime temperatures were 0.90°C above normal, the highest such anomaly recorded in the available data and in comparison, 2025 was cooler nationally but still ranked as the eighth warmest year, with the annual average temperature 0.28°C above the long-term average.
IMD data has also highlighted a faster rise in minimum temperatures compared with maximum temperatures, which means warming can increasingly be reflected in warmer nights, even when some individual days feel cooler.
So, Jalandhar is seeing a relatively cooler day on September 26 this year.
