To keep a close watch and maintain traffic in the city, Jalandhar E-Challan system is slapping fines on violators. For those who are unaware, Jalandhar is the second city of Punjab to implement E-Challan system.
E-Challan system in Jalandhar was operationalised at 4 chowks of the city (PAP Chowk, BSF Chowk, BMC Chowk and Guru Nanak Mission Chowk) on October 12 after weeks of trial runs following its September 29 inauguration.
Earlier, the focus of Jalandhar E-Challan was on red light violations. Meaning, people who were caught on camera jumping red lights in the aforementioned areas were slapped with fined via Jalandhar E-Challan system.
Now, the traffic police are keeping a close watch on another traffic offence in Jalandhar.
According to ADCP (Operations and Security) Vineet Kumar, after red-light jumps, motorists driving on the wrong side are also being fined. As per ADCP Vineet Kumar, wrong side driving leads to traffic jams in the city, hence, traffic violators are also being fined over this offence.
ADCP further informed that on an average basis, daily 200 E-Challans are being issued and till now more than 7000 fines have been issued. 10 E-Challans are being issued on an average basis daily against wrong-side motorists.
However, it has been witnessed that people have started to follow traffic rules.
Notably, residents often complain about faulty traffic lights on Jalandhar roads. Furthermore, out of 13 chowks, the E-Challan system is operational at only 4.
Sources have revealed to True Scoop that multiple letters have been written to Jalandhar Municipal Corporation over such issued by the traffic officials but they all are yet to be addressed.
