Jalandhar District Administration on Thursday changed the venue of firecrackers market for the second time. This year, Jalandhar Firecrackers Market will now be set up at Beant Singh Park, Industrial Focal Point. Municipal Corporation has issued a new NOC for Jalandhar Firecracker Market.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal has also directed the Jalandhar Police Commissioner to take necessary action as per policy and regulations.
As per the Municipal Corporation's first NOC, two different locations in Jalandhar were designated for the Firecracker Market.
Now, the Municipal Corporation has issued a NOC for the new location, Beant Singh Park Industrial Focal Point. This NOC is applicable to all firecracker markets.
According to the information, the Deputy Commissioner has written a letter to the Police Commissioner asking him to ensure compliance with the instructions contained in the policy of Punjab Government, Industries and Commerce Department (Technical Branch) Punjab and the provisions of the Explosives Act and Rules 2008.
For the unversed, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, earlier identified two new locations for the temporary cracker markets that will operate during Diwali this year. The sites selected are Chara Mandi at Lamba Pind and the grounds of Lyallpur Khalsa Senior Secondary School on Nakodar Road.
Traditionally, the city’s cracker market has been set up at Burlton Park. However, owing to ongoing construction and renovation work at the park, the venue has been deemed unsuitable for hosting the market this year. Following a feasibility report submitted by the Municipal Corporation, alternative sites were assessed and finalized.
As per reports, traders were not happy with the two new locations that were finalised by the district administration.
Traders had outlined that the Lyallpur Khalsa Senior Secondary School in Nakodar Road poses risks to children and customers due to its narrow entry gate of only 15 feet. Also, there is a single entry-exit point. Potential traffic congestion in emergencies is also a serious factor.
