Jalandhar Police issues fresh restrictions on weapons & gatherings

CP Dhanpreet Kaur bans carrying weapons in vehicles, marriage functions, processions and public gatherings till July 8

CP Dhanpreet Kaur has issued multiple restrictive orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, aimed at maintaining law and order within the limits of Commissionerate Police Jalandhar. The orders will remain in force till July 8, 2026.

As per the orders, carrying any kind of weapon such as baseball bats, sharp-edged weapons, pointed objects or any deadly weapon inside vehicles has been prohibited across the Commissionerate area.

The Police Commissioner has also banned the public from carrying weapons to marriage palaces, hotel banquet halls, wedding ceremonies and other social functions. Owners of marriage palaces and banquet halls have been directed to install CCTV cameras on their premises.

In another order, landlords, PG owners and residents have been instructed not to keep tenants, PG residents, domestic helpers or workers without informing the nearest Punjab Police Sanjh Kendra.

Firecracker manufacturers and dealers operating within the Commissionerate area have also been directed to print the sound level in decibels on firecracker packets.

Separate directions have been issued for hotel, motel, guest house and sarai owners. They have been instructed not to provide accommodation to any person without proper identity verification. All establishments must keep self-attested photocopies of valid photo ID proofs issued by competent authorities and maintain records of guests, including verified mobile numbers.

The establishments have also been directed to send daily guest information to the concerned police station by 10 AM and get their registers verified every Monday. Information regarding foreign nationals staying at hotels or guest houses must immediately be shared with the Foreigner Registration Office at the office of the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar.

The Police Commissioner has further ordered all hotels, restaurants, motels, guest houses and sarais to install CCTV cameras at corridors, lifts, reception counters and main entry gates. Managements have been instructed to immediately inform the police if any suspicious person checks in or if any guest is arrested by police from another district or state.

To curb cybercrime and maintain public safety, all mobile phone and SIM card sellers have been directed not to sell mobile phones or SIMs without obtaining valid identity proof and photographs of buyers. Dealers have also been instructed to issue purchase certificates with their firm’s stamp and signatures.

Detailed customer records, including name, date of birth, address, thumb impression, signatures, payment details and ID proofs of persons making online or UPI payments, will also have to be maintained by mobile phone and SIM sellers.

Another order issued by the Police Commissioner prohibits taking out processions, carrying weapons during events or rallies, gathering of five or more persons and slogan shouting within the Commissionerate Police limits.
