Heavy rain can quickly disrupt traffic movement in Jalandhar, particularly in areas that are low-lying or have recurring drainage problems and the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar has identified four major waterlogging hotspots that commuters should preferably avoid during periods of heavy rainfall.
The areas identified by the civic body are 120-Feet Road, Jyoti Chowk, Damoria Underpass and Transport Nagar and these locations have faced water accumulation during heavy rain in the past, making them particularly difficult for motorists and pedestrians to cross.
120-Feet Road is one of the important stretches connecting parts of Jalandhar with the railway station and Kapurthala side and theMC has identified the road as vulnerable to waterlogging because of its low-lying stretches.
During earlier heavy spells of rain, the area has witnessed prolonged water accumulation.
The road has also been among the areas affected during previous intense rainfall in the city and in July 2025, heavy rain caused severe waterlogging across Jalandhar, with 120-Feet Road among the worst-affected stretches.
Jyoti Chowk is another major location where commuters can face difficulties during heavy showers and the area is one of Jalandhar's busy commercial zones, meaning waterlogging can quickly affect both traffic and pedestrian movement, according to the MC, the location's vulnerability is linked to its geographical characteristics and drainage conditions.
The civic body has included Jyoti Chowk among the city's key waterlogging-prone areas.
The Damoria Underpass, near Jalandhar City railway station, is another location where commuters need to be particularly cautious during heavy rain and the underpass has a history of water accumulation during monsoon spells.
The MC has said that the location can accumulate around 2 to 4 feet of water during normal monsoon spells, making the stretch difficult and potentially unsafe for vehicles when rainfall is intense. Previous reports have also documented water accumulation at the Damoria underbridge during heavy rain and in June 2025, waterlogging was reported at the underbridge along with several other major roads and crossings in the city.
Transport Nagar, located between Pathankot Chowk and Focal Point, has also been identified as a recurring waterlogging hotspot and according to the MC, the area faces drainage-related challenges, including the absence of an efficient stormwater drainage network.
The location has also experienced disruption during previous heavy rainfall. A report noted that industrialists and commuters in Transport Nagar faced difficulties after heavy rain, with the approach road becoming muddy and difficult to use.
For commuters, the practical takeaway is simple: during heavy rain, avoid 120-Feet Road, Jyoti Chowk, Damoria Underpass and Transport Nagar wherever an alternative route is available, as water levels can change quickly during intense showers, and previously waterlogged stretches may become difficult to cross even after rain begins to ease.
