In a major development, two of the biggest Punjabi singers Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh have apologised to Punjab Women's Commission (PWC). Punjab Women's Commission had issued notice and summoned both the Punjabi singers to appear before it over objectionable lyrics in their songs MF Gabhru! and Millionaire.
Karan Aujla has sung MF Gabhru! and Honey Singh has sung Millionaire song. The PWC had an objection over a abusive word that was used in the songs.
As per reports, Karan Aujla and Honey Singh have apologized to the Punjab Women's Commission for the language used in their songs. Punjab Women's Commission Chairperson Lali Gill was quoted by a Hindi Daily. She told that both the singers are currently abroad.
Both have said on the phone that whenever they come to India, they will go to the commission's office and apologise. However, they have asked for seven more days.
At the same time, an official from Punjab Police reached the commission and also submitted its report. The official said that the lawyers of both the singers will present their side soon.
Punjab Women's Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said that she herself listened to the songs of Honey Singh and Karan Aujla on social media. After this, the commission started strict action in this matter.
The commission in its letter to the police outlined that objectionable language has been used against women in Honey Singh's song 'Millionaire'. At the same time, inappropriate words have been used for women in Karan Aujla's song 'MF Gabhru', which is completely wrong.
The Women's Commission has ordered the DGP to direct an officer of the Punjab Police of Chandigarh to investigate this matter and take strict action.
