Two major commercial markets in city have announced a temporary closure for four days in last week of June due to summer break and the decision has been taken by market associations after internal meetings with shopkeepers and both groups have confirmed the dates as June 25 to June 28, 2026.
According to Baljit Singh Ahluwalia who is the President of Phagwara Gate Electronics Market all electronics-related shops in several major markets will remain closed during this period and he said that this is an annual practice followed by traders as a summer break.
The decision has been taken collectively by 13 associations dealing in electronics goods.
As per the announcement markets that will remain closed include Phagwara Gate Electronics Market, Bhagat Singh Chowk, Milap Chowk, Pratap Bagh Market, Chahar Bagh Market, Shere Punjab Market, Ahuja Market, Sidhu Market, Guru Nanak Market, Hong Kong Plaza Market, Jagdambe Market, Old Railway Road Market and Phagwara Gate Mobile Market and for the same Ahluwalia has appealed to customers from Jalandhar and nearby towns to complete their purchases before June 24 and said that during closure period shops will remain shut and no business activity related to electronics will take place.
The decision was reportedly taken in a meeting attended by several senior members of trading community including Harminderpal Bhasin, Lajpat Rai Mehta, Sarabjit Anand, Harpreet Lovely, Bhupinder Lucky, Surinder Singh, Jaspal Flora, Neeta Murgai, Balbir Singh, Rocky Manchanda, Sandeep Kumar, Sarabjit Makkar, Yogesh Kumar and Arvinder Singh among others.
In a separate but similar decision Model Town Mobile Association has also announced closure of all its member shops during same period and the decision was taken in a meeting held under chairmanship of President Rajiv Duggal.
The association confirmed that all shops dealing in mobile phones, mobile accessories, and electronic items under Model Town Mobile Market will remain closed from June 25 to June 28, 2026 and the decision was taken unanimously with consent of all shopkeepers present in the meeting and Rajiv Duggal said that this step has been taken collectively and applies to entire mobile market of Model Town and he also appealed to customers to plan their purchases, repairs and other mobile related work in advance so that they do not face any inconvenience during closure days.
The meeting was attended by several shopkeepers and members of the association, including Vicky Juneja, Prince Juneja, Montu Juneja, Mohit Hans, Gagan Vaddu, Akash Bajaj, Sarabjit Singh, Gagan Anand, Akshay Mehta, Gaurav, Mohit, Deepak, Shabhi, Binnu Singh, Shivam Jagota, Nitin Gupta, Harry Gupta, Gannu Singh, Nannu Singh, Ram Ji, Raju Chaudhary, Vishal and Madhav Shoor and now with both major market groups aligning on the same dates customers across Jalandhar are being advised to finish any electronics or mobile related purchases before June 24 to avoid inconvenience during the four day shutdown period.
